PUBLIC LECTURE

Ozone depletion and climate change: A tale of two environmental issues
The Shine Dome, Canberra, 24 May 2007

Dr Susan Solomon
Senior Scientist
NOAA Earth System Research Laboratory, USA

This talk will explore two different global environmental concerns: ozone depletion and climate change. What are these two issues all about? Do they have similarities? What about differences? In what ways are they linked?

Dr Solomon made some of the first measurements in the Antarctic that showed that chlorofluorocarbons were responsible for the spectacular ozone hole, and she pioneered the theoretical understanding of the surface chemistry that causes it.

When: Thursday 24 May 2007
Drinks and refreshments 5.30pm, lecture 6–7pm
Where: Shine Dome, Gordon Street, Canberra
Cost: Free entry and parking
