Call for expressions of interest for Co-Editor of Historical Records of Australian Science

Historical Records of Australian Science (HRAS) (www.publish.csiro.au/hr) is a biannual journal publishing in the field of history of science, pure and applied, in Australia, New Zealand and the southwest Pacific.

The journal was first published as Records of the Australian Academy of Science in 1966, and the current name was adopted in 1980. The journal is wholly owned by the Australian Academy of Science and published by CSIRO Publishing, which is also responsible for the journal’s operational management and distribution.

Historical Records of Australian Science operates with two Co-Editors who share responsibility. The Academy intends to engage an editor with an interest in historical perspectives on Australian science to join the continuing Co-Editor, Professor Ian Rae. Together the editors will continue to make significant contributions to the publication of quality history of science research for a broad audience.

The journal publishes two issues per year with a focus on historical articles and historical documents, as well as biographical memoirs, essays, book reviews and an annual bibliography of the history of Australian science. The direction and scope of the journal is shaped by its Editorial Committee which includes both editors. Find out more about the journal’s scope. It is the responsibility of the Co-Editors to accept submissions consistent with that direction.

The Academy seeks the services of a Co-Editor for HRAS who has experience in scientific academia or a background in editing journals. The Co-Editor will have a good track record of publishing in academic journals, strong leadership and teamwork skills, and a vision for the journal’s future. The position is an opportunity to take a leading part in shaping the future of an established journal, unique in Australia and the region.

This is a contract position available for an initial term of two years, with the possibility of extension. The successful applicant must have their own ABN, and the work can be undertaken from anywhere in Australia.

An honorarium is divided between the Co-Editors. CSIRO Publishing provides access to a web-based submission and peer review system, a dedicated editorial assistant, and marketing and production services that are based in Melbourne.

The closing date for applications is Friday 20 September 2024.
