The award recognises research in the physical and biological sciences conducted by outstanding Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander PhD students and early- and mid-career scientists. It allows interdisciplinary and sociocultural research that could straddle the social sciences and humanities.
The aim is to support the recipients’ research and/or the expansion and growth of their research networks and international knowledge exchange through visits to relevant international centres of research. Awards are for up to $20,000, with additional support provided to attend the Academy's annual Science at the Shine Dome event.

The ASPIRE Prize is an annual award, valued at US$25,000 (approximately A$33,000–$35,000) and for its host year of 2022, Thailand has selected ‘Innovation to achieve economic, environmental, and social goals’ as the ASPIRE prize nominating theme. The theme will showcase impactful research created to transform the whole of society to become more balanced and sustainable. This may include research that encourages biological advances, promotes sustainability, or achieves better understanding of agricultural systems in subjects such as biology, chemistry, environmental science, physics, mathematics, economics, social sciences and other relevant fields.
Nominations must be submitted by a research office or grants office if from the private sector. Self-nominations will not be accepted.

The Australian Academy of Science invites expressions of interest from junior scientists who are no more than 30 years of age (at the time the application is submitted), to visit the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in the United States of America. The successful applicant will receive a contribution towards the direct return air travel between Australia and the host institution up to a maximum of A$2,600, and a once-off living allowance of up to a maximum of A$400 provided by the Adam J. Berry Memorial Fund (AJBMF). The NIH will provide a small daily stipend during the participant’s stay in America. The duration of the visit is expected to be between 6 and 13 weeks and must occur between 1 August 2022 and 1 March 2023.
