The Academy is coordinating Australia’s participation in the Science20 (S20) meetings hosted in India this year on Disruptive Science for Innovative and Sustainable Development.

The objective of the S20 meetings is to leverage scientific, technological and intellectual interactions between nations to address common problems and form solid international alliances that further the agenda of the G20—to address global challenges such as climate change mitigation and sustainable development.

The series of five in-person meetings provide the Academy with the opportunity to present an Australian perspective on the three themes of:

  • clean energy for a greener future
  • universal holistic health
  • connecting science to society and culture.

Academy Fellow Dr Surinder Singh attended the inception meeting in January and will attend the third meeting in early May on universal holistic health.

The Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) is supporting the Academy to ensure suitable in-person representation at all meetings, with Academy President Professor Chennupati Jagadish to attend the final synthesis meeting in July.

Promoting international scientific engagement is a strategic priority for the Academy and the S20 meetings provide a valuable opportunity to contribute to S20 policy papers, which outline specific recommendations and implementable actions for the G20’s consideration.
