The Australian Academy of Science has partnered with the Breakthrough Prize Foundation to deliver a program to support Ukrainian researchers in eligible fields of science who have been impacted by the war with Russia. The donation is being used to establish two different activities, each designed to offer practical support to enable the continuation of research and technology activities by Ukrainian scientists.
Activity 1 – Short-term visits, will support Ukrainian researchers to participate in short-term visits to Australia to engage in project research at a host institution, or to participate in a conference and site visit program. The Australian host organisation is responsible for applying for the funding and administering the grant to cover the direct costs to support the visit.
Applications for Activity 1 close 7 June 2023.
Activity 2 – Facility access, provides practical support to research being undertaken in Ukraine that has been impacted by the current war. Ukrainian researchers can access leading infrastructure capabilities in Australia, such as supercomputing facilities, microscopy and microanalysis facilities, and telescopes. Ukrainian researchers will be able to send their samples to National Collaborative Research Infrastructure Strategy (NCRIS) facilities for analysis, with the results returned to the Ukrainian research institute. Funding will cover the cost of sending samples between Ukraine and the Australian testing facility, and the cost of testing and analysing the samples.
Applications for Activity 2 close 31 May 2023.
More information on The Ukraine-Australia Research Fund will be published on our website when applications open on 1 May.
The Australian Academy of Science invites applications from Australian early- and mid-career researchers (EMCRs) for the France and Europe Mobility Grants Program.
The EMCR mobility grants, supported by two memorial funds, are intended to strengthen international research networks and linkages by providing support (up to A$7,000) for Australian researchers to travel to France and other countries in Europe, to work with leading researchers at major science and technology organisations for between 14 and 28 days.
The Bede Morris Memorial Fund supports Australian EMCRs to conduct research in collaboration with a French research organisation in any field of the natural sciences. The Rod Rickards Memorial Fund supports Australian EMCRs to conduct research in collaboration with a European research organisation in the areas of chemistry or biology.
Candidates must have a PhD degree at time of application, with the degree having been conferred no more than 15 years prior to the grant application deadline.
Applications close 9 am (AEST) 10 May 2023.
