Scientist-to-scientist engagement should transcend political and religious beliefs and provide continuing opportunity for nations to engage in harmonious dialogue and co-existence.
In this position statement the Academy expresses the view that scientist-to-scientist engagement should transcend political and religious beliefs and provide continuing opportunity for nations to engage in harmonious dialogue and co-existence.
Last year the Academy put forward an extensive submission to the consultation on the draft Reef 2050 Long-Term Sustainability Plan. The Academy’s submission received extensive media coverage both in Australia and overseas. Since then the final plan has been released by the Government along with a commitment to ban the dumping of capital dredge spoil in the world Heritage Area.
The Academy has released a position welcoming the positive changes made in the final plan, and outlining refinements in the areas of climate change, port development, maintenance dredge dumping, resourcing, sustainable fishing and governance that could improve the plan further.
