World Teachers’ Day with Professor Lyn Beazley
Teachers play a transformational role as key influencers of young people and the attitudes they form, as well as conduits to the community more broadly. Over the past few years, teachers have also been required to transform their practice at a rapid pace – sometimes even daily.
This year, the global theme for UNESCO World Teachers’ Day was ‘The transformation of education begins with teachers’. In the countdown to World Teachers’ Day in Australia on 28 October, the Academy invited people to share their stories of teachers who have inspired them, by creating a customised social tile on the Academy’s World Teachers’ Day page and sharing it on their social media channels.
The Academy’s Secretary Education and Public Awareness, neuroscientist, educator and former WA Chief Scientist Professor Lyn Beazley, also shared her appreciation of and respect for teachers through a series of short videos, including a story of a teacher who shaped her life. These messages of support and acknowledgement were shared with the thousands of teachers who use our education programs.
The Academy’s involvement in school education focuses on providing support for teachers of science and mathematics spanning Foundation to Year 10 through its three programs, Primary Connections: linking science with literacy, Science by Doing and reSolve: Mathematics by Inquiry.
