Inspired by the natural osmotic process, ubiquitous to all living cells, forward osmosis (FO) and pressure retarded osmosis (PRO) are now emerging as alternative membrane technologies for desalination and energy generation. Discussing and sharing the latest progress and envisioning the future perspectives within the academia and industries is however vital for the progress of these novel technologies. IFOS has been therefore founded with the main aim to provide a specific forum and also aims to encourage more academia and industries on board to this field.
This conference has received part funding from the Academy to form part of the Academy's Fenner Conferences on the Environment series. These are a series of environmental conferences on the environment and conservation issues in Australia and its environs. The purpose of these conferences is to bring together those with relevant scientific, administrative and policy expertise to consider current environmental and conservation problems in Australia, thereby contributing to the formation of policies that can alleviate some of these problems.
