Reactive intermediates and unusual molecules: photo- and thermo-chemistry of tetrazoles, sydnones, and related compounds

David Craig Medal

The David Craig Medal and Lecture

The David Craig Medal recognises the outstanding contribution to chemical research of Emeritus Professor David Craig AC FAA FRS. Its purpose is to recognise contributions of a high order to any branch of chemistry by active researchers. The awardee is expected to present several public lectures in cities across Australia.

About the speaker

Curt Wentrup was educated at the University of Copenhagen (Cand. Scient. 1966; DSc 1976) and the Australian National University (PhD 1969). After postdoctoral periods with Hans Dahn (Lausanne), WM Jones (Gainesville, FL) and Maitland Jones Jr (Princeton), he held a position as Privat-Docent at the Université de Lausanne, Switzerland, and a professorship at the Universität Marburg, Germany, before returning to Australia in 1985 as professor and chair of organic chemistry and Head of the Organic Chemistry Section at the University of Queensland, where he is now Emeritus Professor.

Since 2008 he has been Editor-in-Chief of the Australian Journal of Chemistry. He has published more than 300 research papers and more than 30 reviews and book chapters, as well as three books on reactive intermediates. His interests are in the fields of both experimental and computational chemistry of reactive intermediates and unusual molecules. He collaborates extensively with research groups in Australia and Europe and frequently holds visiting professorships in Europe.
