Academy congratulates Eureka Prize winners

Three Fellows of the Australian Academy of Science were awarded with prestigious Australian Museum Eureka Prizes.

Professors Marilyn Renfree, Michelle Simmons and Tanya Monro were given their awards last night as part of a ceremony at Sydney's Town Hall.

Quantum computing expert Professor Simmons won the CSIRO Eureka Prize for scientific leadership and zoologist Professor Renfree won the University of Technology Sydney Eureka Prize for Outstanding Mentor of Young Researchers.

Physicist Professor Monro was part of the "Super Dots team" which won the University of New South Wales Eureka Prize for Excellence in Interdisciplinary Scientific Research.

The champion of the Academy's Nova website, Professor Emma Johnston also won Department of Industry and Science Eureka Prize for Promoting Understanding of Australian Science Research.

The Eureka Prizes are held annually by the Australian Museum and recognise outstanding contributions to Australian science.
