April 12, 2013

Four Indonesian educators on behalf of Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organisation (SEAMEO)for Quality Improvement of Teachers and Education Personnel (QITEP) in science are currently visiting the Australian Academy of Science in Canberra to work with the Science by Doing team.

The visit is part of a collaborative Indonesian-Australian pilot project, Promoting Real Australian Indonesian Science Education (PRAISE), that’s funded by the Australian Government.

The Indonesian team is developing a science curriculum unit for Indonesian students and Academy representatives, led by the Science By Doing Executive Director, Professor Denis Goodrum is sharing their knowledge gained developing the program in Australia.

“While there are cultural differences between the two countries, many of the teaching/learning issues arethe same. For that reason there is value in working together to tackle those issues,” Professor Goodrum said.

Later in the year two members of the Science By Doing team will travel to Indonesia to assist with an implementation workshop for Indonesian teachers involved in the trial of the curriculum.
