Name: Andrew Ray
Position: Science policy intern, EMCR Forum | Research assistant, ANU College of Law
Pre-ECR! I am finalising my undergraduate degree this year.
I am in my final year of a combined degree in Science/Law (Honours) at the ANU, with a major in Science Communication and a minor in Physics. Throughout my studies I have focused on the overlap between law and science, with a strong interest in policy work. I have co-authored submissions to 20 parliamentary inquiries with a particular emphasis on the impact of emerging technologies on the law. I have also published articles in the fields of environmental and technology law.
I live just outside of Canberra, where I was also born.
As part of a science communication subject in semester one this year, I helped to conduct a review of the EMCR Forum’s communication strategy and activities. Through this work I was exposed to the work of the Forum and worked closely with several members of the Executive. This was a fantastic opportunity, and I wanted to continue this work into the second half of the year. As a science policy intern, I have been able to work closely with members of the Executive to draft submissions to parliamentary inquiries and I am also working on new outreach and engagement activities.
I am a softball and baseball umpire and love all things science fiction!
