Redefining how we measure our world

In May 2019 how we define mass, distance, time, energy and more is going to change.

Join us at the Shine Dome to hear more about the once-in-a-lifetime changes proposed to the international measurement system!

Dr Barry Inglis is the first Australian to be elected President of the International Committee for Weights and Measures (the peak position in international measurement science) and his presentation will answer the following questions:

  • How was the International System of Units (SI, aka the “metric system”) created?
  • How does the SI help industry, the community, science and emerging technologies?
  • What is the role of National Metrology Institutes such as Australia’s NMI?
  • What are the proposed changes, and how will they impact us?

The panellists will include;

Dr Bruce Warrington - CEO (A/g) and Chief Metrologist, NMI
Dr Lindsey Mackay - GM, Chemical and Biological Metrology, NMI
