The International Union of Pure and Applied Physics (IUPAP) is a non-governmental and not-for-profit global organisation dedicated to the promotion of international cooperation in physics. Its activities include outreach and education as well as capacity building in developing countries. Australia has been a member of IUPAP for many years and since its founding in 1954, the Academy has represented Australia as the National Adhering Member to the IUPAP. In addition to triennial General Assemblies, IUPAP also sponsors and endorses a range of general and special interest physics scientific meetings. As a champion for the principles of universal access to and participation in science, the IUPAP Conference series on Women in Physics aims to foster the participation of women in physics. The meeting in Melbourne will aim to capitalise on the success of previous meetings and bolster momentum to make a difference in the physics community.
The Academy’s National Committee for Physics (NCP) serves as the primary conduit between the Australian physics community and IUPAP.
