In late 2019, fire ripped through large swathes of Australia and the world was watching on, horrified. Even though fires are relatively commonplace in Australia—in fact we declare it ‘Bushfire season’—something was different this time. Fingers are pointing towards climate change—but is there more?
This special event will shine the spotlight on the effects of the recent devastating fires and the outcomes for biodiversity, health and human behaviour. Hear from an expert panel as they debunk the myths and explore how we as individuals and as a society can better protect our communities and our environments.
The event will feature Professor Ove Hoegh-Guldberg FAA, Professor David Bowman, Dr Rachael Nolan, Associate Professor Michael-Shawn Fletcher, Associate Professor Dale Nimmo and Associate Professor Erin Smith.
This special event is presented by the Australian Academy of Science and World Science Festival Brisbane in association with QPAC.
All profits will be donated to Australian Red Cross and Wildlife Information, Rescue and Education Service – WIRES.
