New year, new EMCR Forum Executive

In 2021, the Forum welcomed the new members to the EMCR Forum Executive. Seven new passionate and engaged EMCRs will help advocate for researchers in Australia through the Forum and all its activities. Dr Yee Lian Chew, Dr Timothy Lau, Dr Zsuzsa Banhalmi-Zakar, Dr Michelle Christie and Dr James Gong are continuing their ongoing terms, bringing seasoned knowledge to the Executive.

We thank the outgoing members for their work and commitment to the EMCR Forum and the EMCR community. The work of Associate Professor Michael Bowen (outgoing Chair), Associate Professor Vanessa Wong (2019 Chair), Dr Emma Beckett, Dr Adrian Murdock, Dr Alexie Papanicolaou, Dr Justine Shaw and Dr Irene Suarez-Martinez helped the EMCR Forum advance the representation of EMCRs in Australian science through the pandemic.

Investigator Grants information session

On Tuesday 2 March the EMCR Forum and the NHMRC co-hosted an online information session on the key changes to the Investigator Grants 2021 guidelines for early- and mid-career researchers.

Over 250 EMCRs joined the session to learn more about the new approach to assessment of ‘relative to opportunity’ considerations and how to capture the impact of COVID-19 in their grant application. We would like to thank the NHMRC for helping EMCRs navigate the changes to the investigator grants application process. A special thanks to Julie Glover Executive Director of the Research Foundations Branch and Pru Glasson Director of the Investigator Grants section at the NHMRC for their presentation.

Science Pathways 2021

The EMCR Forum Executive is preparing options to deliver a Science Pathways conference in 2021 after the cancellation of the conference in 2020 due to COVID restrictions.

The new co-conveners for the Science Pathways conference, Dr Michelle Christie, Dr James Wong, Dr Vanessa Moss and Dr Mohammad Taha, have been working to design an engaging and relevant event for EMCRs in Australia. More information about the event, theme and how you can participate will be announced through the EMCR Forum mailing list in the coming weeks.
