Celebrating science: Prime Minister’s Prizes for Science 2021

The Australian Academy of Science congratulates the recipients of the 2021 Prime Minister’s Prizes for Science:

• The Prime Minister's Prize for Science: Professor Edward C. Holmes FAA FRS, The University of Sydney, NSW
• The Prime Minister's Prize for Innovation: Professor Anthony Weiss AM, The University of Sydney, NSW
• The Malcolm McIntosh Prize for Physical Scientist of the Year: Dr Keith Bannister, CSIRO, NSW
• The Frank Fenner Prize for Life Scientist of the Year: Professor Sherene Loi, Peter McCallum Cancer Centre, VIC
• The Prize for New Innovators: Associate Professor Michael Bowen, The University of Sydney, NSW
• The Prime Minister's Prize for Excellence in Science Teaching in Secondary Schools: Scott Graham, Barker College, NSW
• The Prime Minister's Prize for Excellence in Science Teaching in Primary Schools: Megan Hayes, Mudgeeraba Creek State School, QLD

Traditionally, the Academy acknowledges recipients with a breakfast at the Shine Dome, but this year we will be celebrating online to recognise these leading researchers, innovators and teachers. Join us for a panel discussion with the teachers who were awarded prizes for teaching excellence and those who were highly commended in 2021. You are invited to join the Academy to hear from these remarkable teachers who inspire students across Australia.

Joining us live will be the five school teachers recognised in this year’s awards:

• Dr Kirsten Hogg, Queensland Academy for Science Mathematics and Technology, QLD (Highly Commended - Prime Minister's Prize for Excellence in Science Teaching in Secondary Schools)
• Jacqueline McCarthy, Abbotsleigh Private Girls School, NSW (Highly Commended - Prime Minister's Prize for Excellence in Science Teaching in Primary Schools)
