On 29 September 2022, the Australian Academy of Science provided a submission to the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water for the external review of the Australian Biological Resources Study (ABRS). The submission notes that the ABRS is an important driver of taxonomy and biosystematics research in Australia, but is restricted by its limited funding. The ABRS is a critical program that should be enhanced and expanded to support the strategic actions outlined in Discovering Biodiversity: A decadal plan for taxonomy and biosystematics in Australia and New Zealand 2018–2028.
