In 2021, the Australian Academy of Science, with the support of the Australian Government Department of Industry, Science and Resources, published a snapshot of the dynamic impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on women in the science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) workforce throughout the Asia-Pacific region.
The report was informed by close collaboration with regional partners and revealed that the pandemic has exacerbated pre-existing gender inequity in the STEM workforce, warning that without action important gains in equality may be lost.
One year on, it is timely to explore how these trends have developed and how we can collaborate to create greater opportunities for Women in STEM across the region.
