The Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water conducted four rounds of consultations between October 2023 and March 2024 on reforming Australia's environmental laws. Below are the submissions made by the Academy at various stages of the consultation process.
On 05 July 2024, the Academy made a second submission, confined to the material covered at the March 2024 consultation sessions held by the Department.
The Academy recommends a number of actions to ensure holistic and systemic data collection and transparency in decision-making under the proposed new laws.

On 09 February 2024, the Academy made a submission on the New National Environmental Laws.
The scope of this submission is confined to the material covered at the October and December 2023 consultation sessions held by the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water.
The Academy recommends that new legislation should focus on safeguarding Australia’s unique and evolutionarily significant biodiversity and environment, adding climate change considerations at every level and incorporating scientific expertise in decision-making processes.
