Applications are open for researchers and innovators to present their ‘big idea’ in the Falling Walls Lab Australia heats. Winners from the heats get to compete at the Falling Walls Lab Australia Finale on Friday 30 August at the Australian Academy of Science’s iconic Shine Dome in Canberra.

The £500,000 QEPrize is awarded to up to 10 individuals who are responsible for groundbreaking innovation in engineering of global benefit to humanity.

This award is given to a current PhD candidate who has demonstrated outstanding capability, creativity and potential in the biomedical sciences or health and medical research. The winner receives $20,000 and two runners-up receive $2,500 each.

The Eppendorf & Science Prize for Neurobiology is awarded annually to one scientist not older than 35 years of age for outstanding neurobiological research described in a 1,000-word essay. The winner is awarded US$25,000 and publication of his or her essay in Science and its online publication.

These awards recognise world-class research and artistic creation across eight categories: chemistry, physics and mathematics; biology and biomedicine; information and communication technologies; climate change and environmental sciences; economics, finance and management; humanities; social sciences; and music and opera. An award consists of €400,000, a diploma, and commemorative artwork in each of the eight categories.
