Theo Murphy Initiative Australia (TMIA) funding streams

TMIA is dedicated to supporting activities that deliver tangible benefits to Australia’s STEM early- and mid-career researchers (EMCRs). The fund offers several types of grants:

  1. Flagship activities: To support major initiatives designed to deliver tangible benefits to EMCRs in Australia.
  2. Amplify activities: To develop complementary add-on events that will bring additional benefits and opportunities to conferences, workshops, and symposiums.
  3. Participation Support grants: To cover costs associated with attending or participating in events that contribute to career advancement.

Each type of grants has specific funding amounts and a set number of awards available.

Applications close 5pm (AEST) on 1 October 2024 and the outcomes are expected in mid-December 2024.

Japan Society for the Promotion of Science Fellowships (JSPS)

The JSPS Postdoctoral Fellowship for Research offers Australian postdoctoral researchers the opportunity to advance their careers while contributing to research progress in Japan. This fellowship supports researchers across a range of fields, including physical sciences, life sciences, engineering, technology, and medicine. Applications are welcomed from candidates in any of these disciplines.

External opportunities

Wolf Prize

This award is given to outstanding scientists and artists from around the world. The nominations are by invitation only and are valid for three years. The scientific categories of the prize include medicine, agriculture, mathematics, chemistry, and physics. The Prize’s art categories include Painting and Sculpting, Music, and Architecture. The prize consists of a monetary award US$100,000 and a ceremony in Knesset, Jerusalem.

IUPAC Distinguished Women in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering

This award is presented every two years. Awardees are selected based on excellence in basic or applied research, distinguished accomplishments in teaching or education, or demonstrated leadership or managerial excellence in the chemical sciences.
