Since the launch of the initial eight Science by Doing (SBD) curriculum units by Nobel Laureate Professor Brian Schmidt AC FAA FAA FRS in October 2013, the SBD team has focused on developing the remaining eight curriculum units for years 7 to 10.
The final unit will be released in 2015 and this will complete the suite of 16 units, with four units for each year level. All resources are free to Australian teachers and students.
This school term, a year 8 Energy unit is being trialled in the following high schools:
Batchelor Area School (NT); Carroll College (NSW); St Mary Star of the Sea College (NSW); Kyneton Secondary College (VIC); Cobram Secondary College (VIC); Mooroopna Secondary College (VIC); Neerim District Secondary College (VIC)
This unit provides an array of activities to help students understand the difficult concepts of energy. The unit consists of a student guide, student digital and teacher guide. Click on the electric motor link to view one of the numerous film clips found in the student digital resource.
