Scientific visits to Japan 2014-2015

Fifty-two nominations were received for the Australia‒Japan Bilateral Exchange Program for travel to Japan in 2014‒15. The Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) has approved all 10 of the Academy’s recommended projects.

The successful projects include: fabrication of energy efficient diamond light emitting diodes; development of novel porous solids for renewable energy applications; whole genome sequencing of subterranean clover; structural evolution of soot particles during the formation-to-oxidation transition in a diesel flame; development of polymeric nano-composite protecting coating for magnesium alloys; tropicalisation of temperate algal forests in Japan and Australia; and regulation of gut associated immunity, micro-biota and response to aromatic hydrocarbons. Australia‒EU Collaboration Program 2014

The Australia ‒ European Union Collaboration Program, supported by the Australian Government Department of Industry, brokers strategic research partnerships with the EU under Horizon 2020 and supports strategic cooperative research with Europe.

The Academy has invited applications for funding from Australian consortia who are partners in an application under the European Commission (EC) Horizon 2020 program. Two grants of $200 000 each (excluding GST) are available. The closing date for expressions of interest to the Academy is 29 April. Please click here for information and guidelines. France‒Australia Science Innovation Collaboration early career fellowships

The Academy has invited applications from Australian early-career researchers for the France‒Australia Science Innovation Collaboration (FASIC) program early career fellowships for 2014.

The grants are for researchers in any field of medical science and biotechnology; clean energy and resources; climate change and environment; and transport and infrastructure. The closing date for applications is 2 April; further information is available here

Adam J Berry Memorial Fund 2015

Expressions of interest are invited from junior scientists (30 years of age or under) to visit the National Institutes of Health in the US. Proposals in any health-related field of natural science will be considered, and only Australian citizens and permanent residents living in Australia are eligible to apply. At time of application, applicants should be either in the first two years of a PhD degree or equivalent, have completed a Masters or Bachelors with Honours degree, or be in the final year of a Masters or Bachelors with Honours degree.
