A neuroscientist, a geologist, a geneticist, a metabolic physiologist and a plant biologist will join the Council of the Academy after the annual general meeting in May 2015.

Dr Higgins will replace Professor Marilyn Renfree AO FAA as Secretary Biological Sciences when she steps down at the end of her four-year term.
Also departing the Council at the 2015 AGM are Professors Ian Frazer AC FAA FRS, Rick Shine AM FAA, Nalini Joshi FAA and Mike Raupach FAA FTSE.
