Jagadish is an acknowledged world leader in the research field of semiconductor optoelectronics. He has pioneered novel delta doping and wavelength-shifting processes in III-V compound semiconductors that have led to innovative quantum well, quantum wire and quantum dot lasers. These achievements have been predicated on a deep understanding of the underlaying solid state physics including defects and diffusion processing. His work on quantum dots is particularly noteworthy: his group has established several world firsts in the growth of new structures by metal organic chemical vapour deposition coupled with novel processing that has led to several world records for device performance.
