Gene Tyson is an internationally recognised microbial ecologist and bioinformatician. Through the development and application of novel approaches for characterising microbial communities, Tyson’s research has profoundly advanced our understanding of microbiology. He has pioneered new methods for studying microorganisms from diverse clinical and environmental settings - allowing us to characterise many of them for the first time. This has paved the way for many important discoveries, enabling a more holistic understanding of microbial ecosystems and how they influence human and environmental health.
