Dr Srinivasan combines a background in mathematics and engineering with a research program on all aspects of insect vision especially the visual behaviour of bees and the properties of the component neurons. He has made a series of fundamental discoveries relating to vision by a moving eye, the matching of receptor and neuron fields to the properties of the visual world, and the performance of a natural low-level visual system. The interdisciplinary results made possible the design of new algorithms which are now implemented in new technology as a way of segmenting the three-dimensional world into separate objects.
