On 2 June 2022, the Australian Academy of Science provided a response to the Department of Education, Skills and Employment consultation paper ‘Research block grant reform to boost incentives for greater university and industry collaboration’. The Academy spoke against the proposed reforms, which will diminish one of the main funding sources for fundamental research.

The Early and Mid-Career Researchers Forum of the Australian Academy of Science also responded to the consultation paper. The Forum spoke against the proposed reforms, which will diminish one of the main sources for fundamental research and disproportionately disadvantage early- and mid-career researchers without established industry networks.
