Eight young scientists representing Australia will meet with 35 Nobel Laureates at the 63rd Lindau Nobel Laureate Meeting at Lake Constance in Germany.
Over 20,000 young researchers from nearly 80 countries apply each year, and only 600 are selected to be part of this special convention. The eight recipients from Australia are attending the event as recipients of the Science and Industry Endowment Fund – Australian Academy of Science Fellowships to the Lindau Nobel Laureate Meetings.
One attendee is a 28-year-old PhD student from the University of Western Australia, Vipul Agarwal, who is especially looking forward to the opportunity for scientific exchange.
“Attending the Lindau meeting will allow me to share my research findings,” Mr. Agarwal said.
“Furthermore, the meeting gives me the opportunity to interact and learn from Nobel laureates.
“This will indeed help me understand the diligence involved in scientific communication, discovery and reporting.”
The delegation will be led by Academy Council member Professor Mark von Itzstein, Director of the Institute for Glycomics at Griffith University.
“I am honoured to being able to facilitate the exchange of ideas between Nobel Laureates in attendance and the next generation of leading Australian scientists and researchers,” Professor von Itzstein said.
“Science is all about collaboration and this event could mark a turning point in the careers of the group from Australia.”
