In the lead up to the Paris climate talks in December, the Academy called for leadership by the Australian Government and for global cooperation to avoid the worst effects of global climate change.
Representatives from more than 190 countries were in Paris and, after a fortnight of talks, finally reached a global agreement aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions and limiting global warming.
In a submission to the Australian Government in May, the Academy recommended cuts in greenhouse gas emissions 30 to 40 per cent below 2000 levels by 2030.
