The nutrition transition to industrialised food systems has provided the most affordable, secure and safe food supply in the history of humanity, but has been accompanied by a pandemic of chronic disease.
It is time to rethink our relationship with food.
Nutrition science has a crucial role to play in partnership with other relevant disciplines as part of an integrated strategy of research and education. The strategy will span nutrients, foods, health and the environment. It will engage researchers, the food industries, government, the law, and the general populace.
This is your chance to be involved in creating that strategy.
If you are interested in the science of nutrition, and feel you could contribute to the challenge of exploring nutrition science in an interdisciplinary fashion, we invite you to apply for this exciting national Think Tank. The findings of the Think Tank will contribute to the development of a long term strategic planning process for the research discipline of nutrition in Australia. This planning process is expected to begin in the second half of 2017 and will aim to consult broadly with everyone in Australia who has an interest in nutrition research.
The Think Tank will give you an outstanding opportunity to develop expertise in operating in a multi-disciplinary context. It is also a unique networking opportunity for the nation’s next generation of research leaders. Find out more about what a Think Tank is and see previous events and outcomes.
The development of the 2017 Theo Murphy High Flyers Think Tank was overseen by the steering committee in conjunction with the National Committee for Nutrition.
Steering Committee members are:
Early- and mid-career researchers working in Australia or neighbouring countries, who have received their PhD within the last 15 years (excluding any periods of career interruption) are eligible to apply. You must be a member of the EMCR Forum to apply. It is free to be a member and you can sign up as part of your application if you are not currently a member.
Applications will be assessed by the organising committee who will select the successful delegates. The Theo Murphy (Australia) Fund will provide financial support to all successful delegates to attend the event.
The Australian Academy of Science is committed to supporting inclusion and accessibility. There are additional funds available to facilitate your attendance if you have special requirements or require additional support.
