A self-governing Fellowship of many of Australia’s distinguished scientists, the Academy was founded on 16 February 1954 by Australian Fellows of the Royal Society of London with the distinguished physicist Sir Mark Oliphant AC KBE as founding President.
Incorporated by Royal Charter, the Academy is a not-for-profit registered charity, governed by a Council elected by and from the Fellowship.
