Distinguished Professor Yun Liu is a world-leading applied materials chemist whose groundbreaking research in crystal and defect chemistry and materials engineering has revolutionised materials design for future technologies. She discovered colossal dielectric materials with unprecedented properties, successfully transferring this innovation to a global capacitor manufacturer. She proposed new defect concepts, discovered novel dielectric polarisation theories and corrected a half-century misconception in defect analysis, profoundly impacting academia and industry. She leverages these advances to create various innovative materials and technologies, driving progress in electronics, energy and environmental applications. She is a prominent leader dedicated to mentoring future generations, enhancing science education, giving advice on policy development and advocating for women in STEM fields
